In a professional setting, nurses are expected to do numerous amount of tasks without the expectation of gratitude from their patients. However, when you receive a simple “thank you” from the people you’ve tirelessly worked to take care of, it can be extremely motivating and satisfying. It can help make a nurse feel like their job is worth the long hours of fatigue. Gratitude between the members of an interprofessional team can also certainly boost moral and positivity. Simple acts of gratitude like being there to celebrate accomplishments, giving compliments on a job well done, or being there to listen when a coworker has had a particularly hard day. It promotes efficiency and a sense of togetherness that makes a team stronger.
Self care for me is an idea that I am still trying to understand and perfect. Honestly, I am prone to feeling overwhelmed and stressed. However, I’ve recently learned to just stop, take a couple of deep slow breaths and to write my feelings in my journal as soon as I calm down. It helps bring retrospect into what was making me feel so upset and out of control. I personally like to write my thoughts down so I can see my thought process. It helps let me come up with a plan of action. If that doesn’t help, I try to reach out to my friends to talk out what’s been bothering me. Talking with coworkers would definitely help me in a professional setting. It is important to feel like you have support within your team when something goes wrong, or when something goes right.
