When I think of a nurse, I personally think of a real life superhero. Even though nurses can’t fly, shoot lazers out of their eyes, or move things with their mind, nurses are critical in keeping our society safe. As cliche as it is, I would like to be the kind of nurse that inspires those I meet. Nursing is a taxing job, however, many nurses juggle taking care their interpersonal relationships, general adulting needs and most importantly, themselves. My aunt is a nurse and I am always encouraged when I hear her story of becoming a nurse and her experiences in this career. She’s been a nurse since her early 20’s and now at 52 is working at an assisted care facility. She studied to become a nurse in the Philippines and as soon as she graduated, came to America to continue her career. I can’t even imagine leaving behind everything you’ve ever known to come to a completely new country to help support your family. She didn’t see her parents and her sisters for almost 10 years because of this. I admire her sacrifice and duty to help others. She is one of my major inspirations as to why I chose nursing as a career for myself. I believe only superheroes are able to handle this job with grace, empathy and grit.
